Can I paint this wooden “Kidkraft Retro Play Kitchen”?

I purchased this play kitchen for my son because it was a good price. http://www.amazon.com/Kidkraft-Retro-Kitchen-Refrigerator-Pink/dp/B001706BRI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1261091838&sr=1-1
The kitchen is pink, so I would like to paint it red, or light blue. It is made of MDF, with a shiny top coat. Do you think it would look horrible if I paint it? If I were able to paint it, how would I go about the painting process?
