I don’t know about you but the first thing that pops into my head when anyone says 1960’s is flower power, baby! This was the era when it was all about peace & love. Everything just exuded ‘groovyness’ right from the fashion to cars and music.

Kids in the 60’s also had it pretty good…this was when all time favourite boy toy, Hotwheels was created. With their funky tracks which allow cars to perform jumps and loops, this is bound to be a successful present! Another favourite both now, and back in the 1960’s has got to be Lego. The sky really is the limit when it comes to Lego and what you can create with it. Both of these continue to be great toys with a huge variety to pick from that kids are bound to adore, no matter what age!

Music in the 60’s was so versatile; there really was something for everyone! One of the big changes from the 50’s to the 60’s was that a lot more female artists were involved in the music industry like Cher, and Petula Clark who went onto become super famous. Of course, one of the greatest discoveries of the time was the Beatles, who continue attract thousands of listeners throughout the world with their catchy tracks. And naturally, who could forget the Woodstock festival which promoted 3 days of ‘peace and music’ and created an enormous buzz!

The 60’s was a great time to be around in terms of fashion, there was so much going on. Mini skirts were first made popular in this period, and have gone on to become a staple item in many of our wardrobes! The hippie look was hot at the time so flowers pretty much anywhere were a good thing…psychedelic baby! Funny how we’ve started wearing flowers in our hair again nowadays! Obviously it goes without saying that all outfits had to be accessorised with at least one ‘Peace’ symbol…groovy baby!

As you can see…the 60’s were just awesome pretty much in every way, so there are loads of gift ideas you can nab from there, and I guarantee you they will still be cool now!

Grandma and Grandpa are one of the most difficult groups of people to buy gifts for. They probably have accumulated a fair amount of things and received many different gifts over the years. This makes it difficult to buy for them. With careful thought, we can still find some great and unexpected gifts that grandma and grandpa will still be pleasantly surprised to receive.

First, a spa or massage gift will be well appreciated. Elderly people are likely less worried about looks and appearances. Some may not have the stress of an office job if they are retired. However, this does not mean they would not appreciate a special treatment of a massage or a spa. This can be exhilarating and can make them feel young again.

Many people tend to buy gifts that consist of photographs of the grandchildren as this is something that grandparents love to receive. Why not be different, have a personalized popart created of your grandparents. This is fun, different and unique. Different types of popart are available. The most popular is the Warholstyle which is a classic, original art inspired by the genius Andy Warhol. Others include Retropop, a combination of vintage, retro, antique and modern art; Lichstyle is a comic style portrait, in solid primary colors, just like the original Roy Lichtenstein modern portraits. Lastly, Silhouettes art is created following the vintage style that traces back to mid-18th century France, where this form of art was created.

One may not associate toys and games with the elderly but certain toys are great to buy for grandma or grandpa. They are fun and will bring out the youth in them. Grandpa would probably love something like a remote controlled helicopter. It requires some skills and technique in operating the helicopter. This is something grandpa can do with the grandson which makes it both fun and a challenge.

For grandma who likes a bit of mental stimulation, there are many great puzzles available. One unique puzzle that I like is

the Nueve Puzzle. There is no right answer or winning move, the Nueve is designed solely to artfully amuse and entertain. Unlike a traditional puzzle or game with only one solution or outcome, Nueve offers countless beginnings and endings. The Nueve will be appreciated by the curious and creatively spirited. Another fun puzzle that provides light entertainment is the 3D Magna Jigsaw Puzzle. The puzzle consists of 64 magnetic puzzles which can be solved on the fridge!

Studies have shown that laughing is a great recipe for living longer. Therefore, I would recommend a gag or novelty gift for grandma or grandpa. The Wind Up Racing Grannies and Fighting Grandads are extremely hilarious. Although some elderly may not appreciate the joke, if your grandma and grandpa have a sense of humor, they will appreciate the funny side of these toys.

Another unique gift is a Personal Newspaper Headlines. Nothing is more special and personal than a gift that is made especially for that person. You can make the headline as serious or as funny as you like.

Finally, this gift may not be unexpected but it is certainly unique and special. It is the New York Times Birthdate Yearbook. This is a genuine archive newspaper published on the precise day of someone’s birth, wedding or other special occasion. It is truly the perfect way to commemorate the event. The book is beautifully gold embossed making it a unique and personal gift.

Men and boys of all ages love toys whether they’re children playing with action figures or big kids playing retro games from their childhood or video games. One of the most popular gifts for boys of all ages has been the remote control car, a lot of remote control cars are modelled on real life supercars which sadly are as close as some guys get to driving them, but remote control versions are still really fun all the same.

Whether it’s racing them round the living room or building miniature stunt ramps out in the garden a remote control car will give a man hours of fun (or until the batteries run out). The popularity of remote control cars has seen a whole fleet of different vehicles released in miniature form such as boats, planes and helicopter.

Helicopters have been incredibly popular in recent years as its immense fun to whizz them past people indoors or outdoors and other vehicles can be just as fun. A lot of people may have been a bit sceptical of remote control helicopters as they need to be light enough to fly but also durable enough to withstand the occasional crash landing. Since they first came to prevalence the helicopters being sold now are much more durable and can take a few bumps when you’re learning to control the toy.

With powerboats and other water based remote control toys you can take your own miniature boat out onto a lake or pond to give it a spin, it may not be wise to test it on a river as you may never see it again but these tiny machines can get up to some impressive speeds on the water making them excellent choices for mens gifts.

Many of these remote control vehicles are battery operated and so you may find you need to buy a fair few batteries unless you opt for a set of rechargeable ones instead. Some remote control cars may even have built in batteries that you just have to plug into the wall charger to get your vehicle “refuelled”!

There are plenty of different remote control gift ideas available including some vehicles that you build yourself, adding a bit of time and attention to build your own car and then driving it around the house or garden.

If you want to be able to give someone a gift that truly means something, not just something you picked up on the way home or on the way to the party, then what you should do is to find a vintage style item to give them or create something that will make them think of the past. Vintage style gifts are fast becoming popular these days due to their whimsical appeal and the memories that they bring to the people who receive them. Some of these old fashioned gifts may include replicas of old car decors, toys, kitchen ware, magnets, books and even clothes. Companies that specialize in the recreation of these gifts often have lists of them for you to look through and you may easily find that perfect retro inspired gift from such a list.

You will find categories like clothing or fashion, kitchen ware, décor, collectibles and candy machines from people who sell these novelty and old fashioned products. You can take your pick from these items and may even find yourself buying one of these for your own home. Gumball machines, old fashioned lunch boxes, old fashioned novelty clocks and even retro glasses and bags can all be easily seen as merchandise you can purchase and give away as retro inspired gifts.

If you want to give vintage style gifts that are classier and more functional, you can opt for those old fashioned ceramic and blown glass decorations that are patterned after items that were made in the 50s and the 60s. You can find pastel colored cookie jars or clear blown glass jars in retro colors of green and blue for your mom’s birthday or glass serving trays or cheese platters for your sister. There are also blown glass wall vases and colored glass candle trays and holders that are reminiscent of the 70s that you can buy from manufacturers that specialize in these items. Most of the old fashioned glass items that have that retro appeal are often those that come in colors like green, purple, blue, yellow or brown, colors that were popular in the 70s when it came to glassware and bottles.

If vintage fashion is what you want to give to someone, then you can hit a lot of the many thrift stores and vintage stores that are around for authentic vintage style gifts that people can wear. Old slogan shirts, old ties, retro jewelry, retro pants and even old fashioned psychedelic scarves can also make good gifts for people who love old fashioned items. Peace t-shirts, smiley shirts, funny slogan shirts and even shirts with pictures of old bands can also make good gifts. If you can find bags that are in good condition despite their being rather old, or if you can find new bags that have that classic retro look, these too can make good vintage style presents for people you care about. All it takes is to find the right old fashioned item that you can give as a retro inspired gift and you have a vintage inspired gift that any person will be happy to receive.
